Wynne wins, Sun too depressed to write a new hed

Toronto Sun CoverA BoB Short

Over there is the Toronto Sun’s response regarding the Ontario Liberal Party’s majority government win on Thursday night. This work of art is a throwback to the one that ran last election on both the Toronto and Ottawa editions of the tabloid, which greeted readers with a simple “We’ve got a Liberal minority, WELCOME TO HELL!” This time around, the Ottawa Sun seems to have taken the high road, opting for the painfully clever “Up Grit Creek” (why didn’t I think of that?) next to a picture of returning premier Kathleen Wynne cackling maniacally.

Meanwhile, in saner waters, The Canadian Press did a piece on voter turnout increasing to 52%, and why that’s nothing to be proud of, and the National Post ran a story on how “Tim Hudak’s loss in Ontario could be good news for Harper.” Reddit and other forums seemed to be fixated both on Wynne’s sexual orientation and her resemblance to popcorn magnate Orville Redenbacher.

If you’re an Ontarian who doesn’t hate public servants, things are looking up — but what will the next provincial election hold? How can it top this one? Well, with some luck, we could see voter turnout move to an astounding 55%, Jian Ghomeshi take it for the NDP, and then name Kathleen Wynne the Attorney General. In which case, Sun editors, I’ve already got you covered:
