		<description>Update:  My luck was not as good with the recent release of Ubuntu 9.10.  Even a clean install had video problems.  Apparently I&#039;m &lt;a href=&quot;http://linux.slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=09/11/03/2211231&quot; rel=&quot;nofollow&quot;&gt;not alone&lt;/a&gt;, as others had problems as well.  I suppose the lesson is the same as in the Windows world, wait awhile until there are updates for all the bugs (or in Microsoft parlance, wait for the first service pack).

I&#039;ve since downgraded back to 9.04 and switched to the same window manager as I&#039;m using on the netbook, xfce.  Not as pretty, but performance seems a bit crisper.  With kde the eye candy server, plasma, would not infrequently max out an entire core of my dual core processor.  Perhaps when I have a quad core  I&#039;ll switch back.</description>
