I've always felt that hardcore atheists have more in common with hardcore religous fanatics then they do with the rest of us moderates. Dawkins, and his ilk are no different from Falwell and his flock. Both factions are naively arrogant -- believing that their way is the only way. Boggles the mind.

It would seem to me that the purpose of this article is to unearth some kind of credible response to Christopher Hitchens' book from the god delusionists and predictably, the article's author is unable to. The only response that seems to come up is "why aren't you more tolerant", or "how can you be so arrogant". These are not valid responses and sound more like criticizing the colour of a book's binding when you don't like what's written inside.

To me, the pinnacle of arrogance is the insistance that god exists when there has never been a shred of evidence and then having the utmost intolerance by trying to convince everyone (on one end of the scale by disguising it as morality and on the other end by torture, murder and threats of eternal suffering) of that very same nonsense.

Mr Hitchens and others are simply stating that enough is enough. Stop corrupting our children with this bullshit, stop giving yourself the right to fly airplanes into skyscrapers and stop ignoring the truth when it's staring you in the face.

I figured it out at the age of 14 when I was discovering the breathtaking beauty of the night sky and was reading about the absolute brilliance of the early astronomers who started to work out the correct order of things. I was quite young, but when I heard on the radio that the catholic church had finally admitted to being wrong about its treatment of Galileo, it pushed me over the edge and I became an atheist. I mean, what took them so long? And why do people insist on remaining in the dark?

So, enough with religious tolerance. Truth matters and religion must be challenged like any other groundless hypothesis.

David in Ottawa
